Finding the Right Class.
Not sure which class is right for you? There are many different schools of yoga, so it really depends on what you're looking for. All yoga by its nature is interested in developing spirituality — without that aspect it's just exercise. But not all yoga has the "exercise" element, for example Jnana Yoga focuses on deepening wisdom by studying the ancient yogic scriptures.

In the West, we tend to be more comfortable with the types of yoga that combine physical movement with breathwork and meditation. Below are the types of yoga that I personally teach:
RESTORATIVE
OR YIN
These are two separate types of yoga, but I bring them together in my Chill-Out Sessions as they're both helpful for regulating an overwhelmed nervous system. These slow, gentle sessions include plenty of breathwork while supporting the body on blankets, blocks and bolsters, in long holds.
What to Expect.

First of all, I need you to know that, phew, yoga is not a competition! Not in the ability to do the poses or to look a certain way while doing those poses!
Social media would have you believe that you need to be skinny, bendy, fashionable and young to do yoga.

Ignore all that. The poses are merely a tool to help our busy Western minds move towards stillness. They're not the point of yoga. That's why you'll see very few photos of me in pose.
It's okay to be old, flabby, unsteady, stiff and unphotogenic because yoga is an internal practice, it doesn't give two hoots what you look like! Besides, what happens in yoga class, stays in yoga class.
So anyway, classes usually comprise of stretching, strengthening, breath work, meditation, yogic philosophy and the occasional om or two! At the end of the session, you'll feel that your body has been moving in new and unusual ways while your mind now feels calmer and less jumpy.

Avoid eating at least an hour before class, preferably two. Wear comfortable, layered clothing — joggers, a t-shirt you can tuck in, and a hoodie in is fine — and come with a mat, blanket, sense of fun and curiosity. Remember, it doesn't matter if you can't touch your toes or keep your mascara in place!
